Vetasi helps Scotia Gas Networks to improve the efficiency of their engineering function

Overview

Scotia Gas Networks provides Gas to over 10m customers in Scotland and the South of England.  They were running two discrete Maximo v6 with Syclo Mobile systems for New Connections and Front Office and also had two legacy Customer Relationship Management systems.  The scope of the project was to replace the legacy CRM systems with Maximo and then to merge all three instances into the latest Maximo 7.5 solution.  A critical requirement was that there is to be no disruption of service to the users.  The solution supports over 1,000 Maximo users and 2,000 mobile users.

Solution

Vetasi were engaged with Enzen to deliver the scope of services, Vetasi taking on the Service Delivery roles, whilst Enzen provided the high level engagement. The Vetasi solution is based on the upgrading and merging of three Maximo systems to the version 7.5.05, thus providing a reduction in infrastructure and applications by consolidating the functionality to one system, whilst keeping the interfaces to existing systems.  Vetasi also upgraded the Syclo client and ensured that the validations in the mobile application and Maximo were in alignment.  Within the Maximo upgrade improvements have been made by the conversion of Java customisations to standard functionality and the use of new 7.5.05 functionality.

Vetasi also provided technical project management for the Maximo work with the following distinct phases: design, build, test and deploy. Each phase was managed under strict procedures following the PRINCE2 guidelines. Each phase had gating criteria and was approved in writing by the client prior to commencing the next phase. The deliverables from each phase included: existing procedures, functional specifications, new working procedures, as-built documentation, configured Maximo applications and integrations, Unit and combined Integration Testing (CIT) system testing, (SIT) and UAT support.  Vetasi also assisted in the performance testing and delivered the complete solution for the training, and early life warranty support.

The Results

The benefits

The asset management system now supports the Front Office, New Connections and CRM streams of the business with the data sets from the pre-existing systems being merged, with the roles and responsibilities being altered to take into consideration the new functionality.

The main of objective of the replacement project was to improve the efficiency of the engineering function at SGN and reduce the customisations in place. Vetasi achieved this by:

  • Merging the data sets into one database
  • Consolidating the business processes
  • Moving Java and other older functionality into Automation Scripts
  • Using New Maximo 7.5.05 functionality
  • Aligning the Maximo and Syclo validations
  • Providing enhanced infrastructure configurations
