Vetasi launches new asset management system for South Staffs Water

Asset and maintenance management experts Vetasi Ltd (Vetasi) have gone live with a major project to install a single work and asset management platform for South Staffs Water (SSW), as part of an enterprise solution for South Staffordshire Plc, covering both above and below ground work streams.

The new system, based on IBM’s Maximo, forms a crucial part of SSW’s £135m five-year development plan to help the company provide the best service and value for money of any water supplier in the UK.

In total, SSW serves 1.2 million residential and business customers, supplying 330 million litres of water daily across a 6,000km long pipe network.

Frank Baker, Vetasi Services Director, said: “Vetasi has extensive experience in the water sector and having previously implemented solutions for companies like South East Water, we already had a good understanding of what SSW would need the system to do and the potential issues involved.

“On the project, we effectively replaced two legacy systems with a new implementation of Maximo’s Utilities solution, which was fully integrated with CRM, Streetworks, GIS, Leakage Management, New Connections and Finance Systems.  We also introduced a Field Force mobile solution which was integrated to a mobile GIS platform.

“As well as the seamless launch of Maximo across SSW’s Production and Distribution organisations, we assisted in the Process Change across South Staffordshire Plc, as well as supporting the training of 160 new Maximo users and 200 mobile users.”

Commenting on the project, Sean Smith, Head of Business Systems at SSW, said: “Previously, SSW depended heavily on paper-based systems, but with Maximo we now have an integrated real-time solution that gives us effective end-to-end visibility of all work in a fraction of the time it took previously.

“In the short time since its release, not only has this improved operations, it is also benefiting Customer Service with a notable reduction in the amount of Customer Contact due to our ability to track jobs and update customers more effectively.”

“The system already integrates with our GIS, CRM, finance, payroll, and HR systems and following the success of this, we’re now looking at the potential to use Maximo and Syclo for capturing meter readings, as well as integrating additional functionality around leakage management and new connections, all of which will help streamline systems and processes across operations in the future.

Vetasi’s Maximo Solution was implemented as part of SSW’s Phoenix IT programme, which is the biggest single IT review and implementation the company has ever undertaken.
