Frank Baker, Director of Vetasi, recently attended the IBM Pulse event in Las Vegas and the following is his feedback and experiences:
The event was extremely well attended with a significant amount of Expo space and presentations focussed on Maximo and related products. Frank co-presented with South East Water on their current Maximo Spatial project and also gave an update on the current Spatial project at SSW. In addition to this he was part of the Spatial Panel discussion on current Maximo Spatial implementations. Highlights from the week included:
Maximo Spatial Update – massive interest in this particular Industry Solution. Several clients now going live with this including City of Henderson and City of Waterloo (both currently live), Abu Dhabi Water & Electric Authority (due to go live in the next few weeks). All of the Spatial related sessions were extremely well attended and prompted great discussion with the audience.
Maximo for Service Providers – attended the Service Provider User Group with an enlightening presentation on the roadmap for this Industry Solution by Bo Batty. There are some exciting developments already available in the current version and due for release shortly. There has been significant changes to the flexibility of the calculation of Service Charges including the ability to set ‘standard rates’ for regular service and add in any ‘top up’ charges against Labour, Materials and Services charges.
Maximo Property Management – attended a presentation as part of the Maximo Roadmap and also spent some time in the one to one Product Lab in the Expo area. The product is developing well and is definitely offering a viable solution for clients involved in the Property Management arena where Service Management requirements need to be married to the more graphical Space Management and Planning services traditionally offered only by full blown CAD systems.
CiM Visual Suite – spent a fair amount of time talking to the development staff on the CiM stand in the Expo. They were on a real high having received the accolade for their product as the best third party add-in for any of the products in the Tivoli range. Had a demonstration from Jean Charbonneau of the next version of Visual Suite which builds on the enhance functionality from the last release and also introduces the concept of Schedule Compliance. This covers those instances where there is a requirement not just to track the progress of work but also to identify where there is a legal or strategic reason why the work should be performed within set timeframes.
In addition to the above there were a number of other interesting presentations including Linear Asset Management, Mobile Metering capabilities in Maximo, Data Archiving using the Optim toolkit.
Following on from Pulse itself there was a Spatial Development Partner Meeting. This was attended by a number of clients who were either already live with Spatial, currently mobilising or considering this as a future option. The meeting offered an opportunity to meet directly with the Development team and offer direct feedback to them on the content of the future roadmap of the Spatial Product
